Purchasing Information

Pack Size: 1300 Kg IBC

Diffusit® is a high performance wood preservative based on boron salts used for the pretreatment of construction timbers. Solvent free and utilising inorganic borates, Diffusit® gives excellent durability to softwoods in Use Classes 1, 2 & 3 (see below). Dr. Wolman’s research and development programmes give safety and environmental issues the highest priority so you can be assured that wood treated with Diffusit® has the lowest possible environmental ‘footprint’. Diffusit® has a commercial track record spanning over 30 years, and borate salts over 50 years, giving you confidence in durability in a wide range of situations (see Use Classes described below). Diffusit® is approved for use as a wood preservative under The Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986 (HSE 5992).
Scope of Use
Diffusit® can be used to treat all timber in Use Classes 1 –3a (BS EN 3351: 1992). That is to say it can be used for all applications above the dampproof course such as truss rafters/stud framing and/or painted windows/doors/cladding etc.
Diffusit® may also be used to treat garden timbers which are not in ground contact such as deck boards etc. but for the longest lifetime in this end use Wolman recommend a penetrating process such as vacuum pressure impregnation using a copper organic preservative (e.g. Wolmanit® CX8).
Information on the Use Class system is available on request from Wolman or from BS EN 3351: 1992. Diffusit® is listed in the Wood protection Association (WPA) Manual and has been fully tested in compliance with BS EN 5991: 1997 (CV – Critical Value available on request) thereby meeting NHBC and Zurich Building Insurance scheme requirements.
What length of service life can be expected?
Service life of the treated timber depends upon the species, end use and application rates.
In BS 8417:2003 (Preservation of Timber –Recommendations) the ‘target’design life for various commodities are given as 15, 30 and 60 years. In the case of Diffusit® the design life for Use Class 1 & 2 (internal timbers, possible risk of wetting) is usually 60 years, for use Class 3a (external timbers with weather protective coating) 30 years and for Use Class 3b (external timbers fully exposed to rain but out of ground contact) 5 –15 years.
