Woodtreat Paste
Purchasing Information
Product Code: WOODT10KG
Pack Size: 10 Kilos
Woodtreat Paste is an oil-based bodied wood preservative based on permethrin (insecticide) and polyphase (IPBC, fungicide). When applied to the surface of timbers at adequate loadings, deep penetration can be achieved.
Woodtreat Paste can greatly assist in the preservation of large dimension and restricted access timbers or where treatment by conventional fluid methods may not be adequate i.e.
-
Timber which is particularly prone to decay i.e., wall plates, joists and rafter ends, gutter boards, soffits, lintels etc.
-
Large cross section beams affected by Death Watch Beetle where treatment in depth is essential.
Woodtreat Paste is not suitable for use on timbers which will remain exposed as a decorative feature.
Preparation
All dust and dirt should be cleaned (vacuum cleaning preferred) from the areas to be treated. Check the structural integrity of the timbers to be treated and remove any severely infested timber. Ensure that any replacement timbers are treated with a suitable preservative.
In areas affected by fungal decay take all necessary actions to locate and rectify the source of the responsible dampness. Woodtreat Paste does not dry but continues to penetrate over a period of time depending on the thickness at which it is applied and the absorption characteristics ofthe wood.
Overpainting is not normally possible without special preparation due to the use of nondrying oils and contact with plate panels should be avoided. Further advice on these matters is available from the Wykamol Group Technical Department.
Application
Apply Woodtreat Paste liberally using a trowel, brush or caulking gun (as appropriate) to achieve the required loadings (see Product Data), working well into the timber. For Death Watch Beetle infestation, treatment can be supplemented by the injection into pre-drilled holes (8-12mm) using a caulking gun or similar.
Using a caulking gun on the surfaces, strips of preservative should be applied across the grain of the timber, varying the spacing between the strips according to the loading required.
Spacing of approximately 100mm for average timbers is usual. Where surfaces or ends of timbers are inaccessible, high loadings of preservative should be applied as close as possible to the inaccessible zone.
Woodtreat Paste may also be injected via a caulking gun into holes drilled into large beams as an additional means of achieving deep penetration, taking care of course to ensure that the drillings do not result in structural weakening. Where replacement structural timbers are being fitted in to damp walls it is good practise to coat the beam-ends liberally with Woodtreat Paste beforehand.
